Walking backwards builds a fable, a possible history of movement, making a reverse journey while reflecting on the invasive and pervasive nature of the human species — a nature that exploits the earth's materials as capital, leading to ecosystem exhaustion.

This danced fable evokes an ecosystem inhabited by hybrid and symbiotic beings, whose symbolic and imagistic nature reflects and creates possible perspectives for the future. It also raises questions like: What is your environment? What is your horizon? What do you discover when you walk? What does the future tell you?

Sara Anjo is a dancer and choreographer with a deep interest in meditative and ecstatic practices, with a primary focus on the acts of breathing and walking. Her work explores a close relationship with outdoor spaces, especially natural landscapes, and is driven by questions about what moves us, how we move, and where we are going.

She trained in dance at the Academy of Contemporary Dance (2001) and holds a degree in Artistic Studies from the Faculty of Arts in Lisbon (2008), a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Art from the Catholic University of Lisbon (2011), and a master’s degree in choreography from the Das Graduate School in Amsterdam (2016).
