This work traces the footsteps of the dancer Carmen Tórtola Valencia, which one must examine closely, as with a magnifying glass, to uncover the details and subtext. Building on this trail, it speculates beyond the archive image, beyond what the press of the time reported, and beyond what Tórtola was able and willing to share at that moment.

This story is crafted through various poetic, performative gestures that enable us to revisit memory and explore alternative narrative possibilities and responses for documenting the present, whilst also recovering and affirming points of reference in art and in people’s lives.

Lara Brown sees creation as a means of generating a poetic gesture that functions as a gift: an exchange of affection that helps us to be in the world in the kindest way possible. She fosters contexts for critical thinking within the performing arts, supports artistic projects, and devises tools to blur and rethink the boundaries of the performing arts. Her work has been presented at Dansa Metropolitana, Conde Duque, the Dansa València Festival, Expo Dubai 2020, the CA2M Museum, the Moujuïc Festival, Graner, the Fira Mediterrània in Manresa, Teatros del Canal and La Caldera, amongst others.
