Terra Cobre is the new criation by sound artist João Pais Filipe and performer Marco da Silva Ferreira. Its starting point is born and expanded in the village of Alcáçovas, in Alentejo, in a creative process that mingles with the traditional pratices in Alcáçovas related to the chocalho - an ancestral method for a manual process - and the contemporary artistic pratices, anchored in percussion and dance.
This subject is pertinent - chocalhos are protected by UNESCO since 2015 and it's the first time that an artistic creation focused on dance works with this pratice - and original, being a collaborative work that merges percurssion and dance, as well as trying to give an immersive dimmension to the public, whom are invited to surround the scenic space and participate in a physical and sound activation of installation structures. It's also an inovation, due to the geographical crossing between Alentejo and the north of Portugal. Terra Cobre allows both João Pais Filipe and Marco da Silva Ferreira to investigate around a device that offers choreographical premisses focused on patrimony and heritage, while also questioning de historical and cultural proprieties of all objects and their sound, choreographic and visual identities.
