Artistic residency integrated in the YEP Program, in partnership with Rua das Gaivotas 6.

VESSEL presents a hybrid device. It is a piece where the organic bodies that inhabit the space are the plastic material for the creation. Through microphones and infra-red sensors, this matter is absorbed by the machine and transformed into data, which is returned to the space in the form of sound and visual matter. This creation manifests a glance at the significance of accessing a sacred space without competitive dualities, where both the technological apparatus and the spectators are essential participants in a network that reflects on transference, encounter and transformation.

Transdisciplinary artist, who develops work in the fields of dance/performance, music/sound design and visual art/multimedia. Born in Lisbon, Filipe Baptista began his artistic path as a dancer in 2008 through urban dance. In 2011 he started his training in contemporary dance and performance. He has worked on creations by Madalena Victorino, Malavoadora, Kwenda Lima, Amálgama Companhia de Dança, Mário Coelho and Pedro Baptista. He created the dance solo Between a Rock and a Hard Place presented at the IX Festival Internacional de Solos de Dança Contemporânea. He collaborated with Mário Coelho providing movement assistance in the piece É Dífícil Para Mim Dançar !. He created the video-installation project ZÉNITE: Quadros de um Grande Jogo Poético, which premiered at the Festival A Salto 2020, in Elvas, and the dance-performance piece NADIR, premiered in the following year at Rua das Gaivotas6. In 2021, he is invited as a creator-performer to the curatorial project All Tomorrow’s Parties by the collective SillySeason, where he created and presented the performance ATMA_0.7, with subsequent and continuous circulation (Bienal de Artes de Coimbra, Zabra, etc. ).

Parallel to his work as a creator and performer, he has always been developing research through other media, such as sound and digital art. He has created several videographic and interactive digital art objects, as well as sound work for various theater and performance pieces.

He is currently developing his most recent creation, the piece tentatively titled Īḍā, which represents the continuity of his research on questions that have accompanied him, such as listening and observing what is manifested beyond the macro-reality, physical transcendence, the sacred dimension of bodies and spaces, the visibility and invisibility of matter, etc.
