Georg Bütow with "Bug Ballet"

FELD/LAB

March 11th, 2024

Georg Bütow is an actor and director for screen and stage. His original works cross genre borders and have a strong political agenda. In #makethempay, he faked his own radicalization on the internet, leading to a live-streamed series of feigned assaults on the culprits of the climate crisis. In 2021, he also infiltrated a German fascist party to obstruct their election campaign.

In Bug Ballet, his most recent work, Georg raises the question of how the future would be in a world where bugs are the great successors of the human race. Bug Ballet was in an artistic residency at O Espaço do Tempo from February 6th to 18th. It also had an open rehearsal on the 17th, where the audience had an intervening role and was able to choose which of the four species of insects would be exterminated in a banquet with no room for individualism nor egos.

This is a project supported by FELD/LAB, an initiative financed by the Goethe-Institut in Portugal and in partnership with Coffeepaste.
