The third chapter of Joyce’s Ulysses begins with a revelation: “the signatures of all things I am here to read (…) coloured signs. Limits of the diaphane”. This statement draws from European mystical tradition with thinkers such as Jacob Boheme and his treatise De Signatura Rerum in which he considers nature as a book to be read. How to read the dancing bodies? What are our dances made of? What is there under the shapes we practice? How do these inherited actions, steps, signs… still serve us to understand a bit more about human nature? I will travel to Espaço do Tempo with a group of dancers to practice and reflect upon these subjects. This residency is the first period of work towards a new choreographic creation.
