"In the beginning, we were all the same being. We shared the same body and the same experience. Since then, things haven’t changed that much. We have multiplied the forms and ways of existing. But even today, we are still the same. For millions of years, this life has been passed on from body to body, from individual to individual, from species to species, from kingdom to kingdom. Certainly, it moves, it transforms. But the life of each being does not begin with its birth ⎯ it is much older." ⎯ Metamorphoses, by Emanuele Coccia
Antes da Chuva Sopra o Vento is a performance that intertwines contemporary dance and musical informatics with experimental musical instruments and sound objects created from trees, rocks, water, and other natural materials.
It continues the exploration of the sonic, expressive, and symbolic possibilities of elements from the animal, plant, and mineral worlds, using the bodies and movements of three performers and the audience as musical instruments. Together, they explore the sounds of different materials and natural phenomena, as well as the voices and sounds of the human body.
Antes da Chuva Sopra o Vento is about how our bodies, together, form a greater body. How our beings stem from other beings, how we are part of an interdependent collective consciousness ⎯ a shared body. The scenic space reflects this: a sound sculpture made of tree trunks, rocks, and water, surrounded by a circular audience, an almost complete arena where movement, vibration, and sound unfold. A gathering.
Through poetic games ⎯ both musical and choreographic ⎯ we touch the sound of the sea with our intertwined hands, use our heartbeat as percussion, and stir the sound of the wind in the air around us.
