"missed tones, missed meaning, missed moments", by Deva Schubert

FELD/LAB

December 26th, 2025

In missed tones, missed meaning, missed moments, Deva Schubert initiates a field of vocal-choreographic research, exploring how a solo practice can hold multiplicity and how a single voice can become many through rhythm, breath and resonance. Inspired by shifting perception, present in the writing of Clarice Lispector and her logic of the dissolution of the self, the work moves through the unstable space between sound and meaning, between what is said and what escapes articulation.

The choreographer and dancer was in artistic residence from 18 to 30 November as part of FELD/LAB, an initiative supported by the Goethe-Institut in Portugal and developed in partnership with Coffeepaste. At the end of the residency, Deva Schubert also presented an open studio at Blackbox, drawing on the research carried out at O Espaço do Tempo, where she explored different modes of speaking and listening.
