This exchange project consists in a joined co-production between these two arts centres of new works by young artists. "Apres le Bain" (working title) by Mariana Tengner Barros, it's the first project to be supported within this framework. After the realization of several artistic residencies in Portugal and Belgium, "Après Le Bain" première's will take place on the 25th and 26th of February 2011 at O Espaço do Tempo's Blackbox in Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal). About "Après Le Bain"There is something about our limited time here, that makes us want to pause it. Signs of ageing are regarded as flaws, plastic surgery becomes a must so one can adapt well to the most recent codes of representation of our bodies. In the quest for some kind of perfection, we go on morphing slightly, daily, comparing ourselves with the images we see all around, old and new. By attempting to construct the ideal image of a body we tend to get further and further away from the reality of that body, that is its details, its peculiarities, what makes it unique and complex. A will for immortality, for a ‘great shape', forever, takes over fully ‘living' each moment. ‘Looking like' and ‘looking at' become more important than ‘seeing' and ‘being'. As long as the ‘image' is what we want it to be, ‘forever' becomes the object where that image gets ‘frozen', the moment registered (a picture, a sculpture, a photo, a film).I am recurrently interested in the representation of the body in art, the body in the media, in publicity, its relevance in the cult of ‘fame' and in the phenomena of the ‘icon'. The way the body is presented, how it is destroyed, the degrees of intimacy and exposure and the mechanisms related with how we ‘cover' our bodies, how we define them. For this solo I wanted to work with a material that was unstable, which form had a short duration. In life nothing stays the same, everything reaches a point where it either ends or it becomes something else. ‘After the bath', after getting ‘clean', scrubbed, desinfected, we add other layers, in a narcissistic-like ritual, working against time.I began working from the idea of getting old in a fast-forward mode. Skin getting wobbly and loose, creams trying to hold it together, even reverting the process. The body undergoes constant and continuous changes, it is an infinite process of reconfigurations and adaptations. Nevertheless, we have that huge tendency to want to freeze them, in an anxious attempt to delay an end and keep a certain appeareance that suits a pre-determined model of beauty. The body of an image, or the image of a body? I try to enter in a place where these converge, where I manipulate my own image, articulating my state between the ‘created' and the ‘creator' (ie: the sculpture and the sculptor), wanting to transcend my countours, my identity, my gender and all the other cultural and social ‘tags' that are imposed.I work with 4 elements: my body, plastic sheets, light and cans of men's shaving foam.Remixing body, body of old, body of now, my body now, forms in my body, ends of my body, body of other, an attempt of body, an empty body, a body cover, ghost body, the body decaying, the body still. Body, still.Mariana Tengner Barros 2009Mariana Tengner Barros Graduated from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance (UK 2003). Was an apprentice dancer with Ballet Theatre Munich (GER 2004). As a creator: starts the on-going work ‘Piece of the Heart' (2008), a theme to explore indefinitely and always in different versions of a solo with a choirus; creates the solo ‘And So?… THE END' (2010) in residency at Eira33 and has another solo ‘Aprés le bain'-(working title) under construction to premiere in early 2011.Collaborated with various artists in different projects: Said Dakash , Elizabete Francisca, Maria Lemos, Abraham Hurtado, Joa Gridfonte, Pedro Bandeira, João Costa, Paulo Matosinhos and António Mv, amongst others. She is a co-founder of the artistic collective The Resistance Movement and an associate artist of O Espaço do Tempo (Montemor-o-novo, Portugal).

Could that mean staying put? To exist in the time that is measurable by instant-messaging and by the growth of a tree. Not to lose concentration in a situation that Miguel Benasayag has described as “when everything becomes possible, nothing is possible anymore”. Thus ... seeking for the equilibrium of a flying aeroplane: speed versus gravity. This moving body on stage has been inspired by sleep, by the physical action of sleeping, by the space and location of a sleeping person. A sleeping body has an existence that is out of control and out of context (disconnected from the actual surroundings). A body that is consumed by the necessity to recycle, rebuild and re-organize itself in order to function. Sleep is our ultimate home. Home that we can't leave, rent or sell. This body won't sleep, it will displace itself instead. It navigates throughout recycled, rebuilt and re-organized materials which chase each other and face the audience, each in its proper manner. These nowhere-arrivals are accompanied by the (mechanical) sounds of going from one place to another and by a voice that anchors itself in the past - speaking of marriages and funerals.Nele Suisalu LOOPING | EU Project In October 2008, LOOPING, a partnership Uzès Danse (France), TanzWerkstatt Berlin (Germany) and O Espaço do Tempo (Portugal) was granted by the European Commission within the framework of ithe Culture 2007-2013 Program.LOOPING is a two-year cooperation project whose aim is to support new creations by twelve emerging choreographers, from six different countries: France, Germany, Portugal, Estonia, Romania and Turkey,. Through sound, words and images, we can glimpse an imagined narrative of our past. Yet the past is immoveable, unknowable, ever elusive and often challenging to confront. Imagine if the power to change or manipulate our personal histories existed.Through the performers dialogue with documented sound history and anonymous objects, an environment is constructed in which one is confronted with the merging of two worlds; past and present. Here the environment takes on a role of power. It gives the opportunity to consider one's history and reflect on the possibilties of how our imagination can twist the reality of our past. From this experience there is a window of opportunity opened up to another dimension...a world of illusion and fantasy. In collaboration with reknowned electronic music artist CLARK (Warp records UK), Melanie and CLARK continue their working partnership for the second time after the successful production 'HELD' in collaboration with Morgan Belenguer (2008), this time developing a sound installation that is composed in co-ordination with objects and choreography in space. The sound is comprised of audio documentations, an ecclectic range of events that transform and influence the environment. In the intimacy of a solo performance, 'Tilted Fawn' builds a universe that offers a dialogue between fantasy and reality through sound and movement. It brings to the surface images that are absurd, dark, light and other-worldly.Melanie Lane LOOPING | EU Project In October 2008, LOOPING, a partnership Uzès Danse (France), TanzWerkstatt Berlin (Germany) and O Espaço do Tempo (Portugal) was granted by the European Commission within the framework of ithe Culture 2007-2013 Program.LOOPING is a two-year cooperation project whose aim is to support new creations by twelve emerging choreographers, from six different countries: France, Germany, Portugal, Estonia, Romania and Turkey,. Marko Milic wants to propose very vivid dancing, almost like the dancer is connected to high voltage electricity and cannot stop, similar to trance parties. His interest is what can be the source or a motive, that push the movement to be fanatical. The starting point was spiritual séances where dance was used as a tool for presenting the communication with spirits and transmitting the message to followers.Marko Milic LOOPING | EU Project In October 2008, LOOPING, a partnership Uzès Danse (France), TanzWerkstatt Berlin (Germany) and O Espaço do Tempo (Portugal) was granted by the European Commission within the framework of ithe Culture 2007-2013 Program.LOOPING is a two-year cooperation project whose aim is to support new creations by twelve emerging choreographers, from six different countries: France, Germany, Portugal, Estonia, Romania and Turkey,. The partner organizations support the artists throughout their creative processes, from their research until the production of their works, as well as on its diffusion. Technical, financial and administrative resources are provided to the selected choreographers to enable them to create a short, 30-minute work. Cycles of residences are organized in each of the six partner countries, to enable the artists to work on their creations, with support and feedback from dramaturgs and theoriticians who bring their opinion to bear on the work, providing an objective gaze, criticism and feedback. At the same time, young production managers are invited to join the projects, ensuring its management. In 2010, six new creations by six emerging artists will be performed during the seasons and festivals organized by the three partner organizations.

This city was founded after all the other ones. We are happy to have you here. The city doesn't know you. The city doesn't need you. But you are welcome here. The city didn't invite you. But you are welcome here.In the end we will be here again - so then we can start again. In the end you can forget the city, so that you can know the city again. We will repeat this journey as long as the city is here - in order to be sure that the city is here. WELCOME."URBANIA is a site-specific performance organized as a guided tour.URBANIA is not a city. Maybe it is the way to move through the city. Or maybe just a particular way to look at it: a lens. A guide will take us. A poetic state is evoked to live this place.
