Flashdance works with the perception of the audience member. The working group is interested
in the ambivalence between something recognisable and unrecognisable and the constant state of
transformation. In a major role in the performance are light and darkness, smoke, concealing and revealing.
Working with perception is about pushing the limits of what can be seen or unseen, but also
about how do we interpret what we see. How do we look something we do not understand and how
can something familiar appear as strange or queer?
In Flashdance working group is researching how something recognisable and unrecognisable can
actively be seen in the performer’s body and how does this effect how do we deal with choreographic
material. The aim is to create an audio-visual-kinesthetic performance where flashing lights, smoke
and darkness are just as much content of the work than the choreographic material.

Flashdance is premiering in the autumn of 2016 and we have applied for Zodiak Center for New Dance to coproduce the work. The period in Montemor-o-Novo will be the first rehearsal period for the production. The work continues with another residency period in the spring/summer of 2016 after which the final and longer rehearsal period leading to the premier is happening in Helsinki.
