We are very excited to be granted this research-based residency, where we will test "mash up" compositional strategies, mashing three female performers, the incredible Giulia Francesschini, Margret Bjarnidottir and Viktoria Anderson, with ecological and extraterrestrial references (video, sound, image, text).
The Belgian born sound and visual philosopher Gael Cleinow and myself, Dani Brown the US born choreographer and performing artist have joined our different areas of expertise with a desire to dirty ourselves with an existential mystery which in and of itself has led the human imagination to produce a massive and fantastical archive from archeological findings dating back to 5,000B.C. to the Hollywood films of today: that mystery which pertains to the question "are we alone in the universe?".
Gael and I have jointly decided to dedicate the next three years to mining the massive archive of video and text material produced on the topic of extraterrestrials. The video and text material we want to reference comes from the areas of politics, astrobiology, archeology, astrophysics, Sci-fi / Hollywood, philosophy and religion. It is our interest to reference such a wide spectrum on the subject of extra terrestrials in an effort to grasp the sheer expanse of human’s fascination with the topic.
Gathered text and video references will serve as material: to create a video work/s, produce sound scores, create text for voice and movement scores, instigate movement research, experiment with scores for composition, inspire the use of time and space, inspire the construction of images, compose strange actions, unfold cosmic rituals, as well as influence aesthetics of stage, light and costume, etc.
This particular artistic proposal includes an open method of production where various formats of performance such as open showings, performance installations, unconventional lectures, concerts or durational investigations will be produced in series (#1, #2 etc.). Gael and I are especially interested in non-product oriented residency opportunities where a potential "product" or series might define itself in the doing according to the current direction or needs of the work itself.

HOW DO YOU IMAGINE THE DEVIL?
IT’S GONNA BLOW
Gaël Cleinow is a visual and sound philosopher born in Brussels, Belgium, July 6th, 1979. After more than 15 years of research through the visual arts, Gaël Cleinow instigated several artistic research structures in his hometown. He opened three temporary spaces in Brussels in the period btw. 2004-2009 dedicated to plastic and scenic research; Rebirth ProductionGallery Obsessions Intimes, and Buzzer. In Brussels he is known for his provocative action and radical vision of art and life.
Five years ago Gaël was invited to the "The Hermetical School" a temporary and secret research facillity organized by Romeo Castelluci. There he undertook a research into sound, space, and time, riding the present moment through the creative act. He is in constant research of new articulation, manipulation and interaction between objects with the body. Today he creates independent sound structures in performative contexts.
Gaël happily calls Berlin home, where he spends a lot of his time researching permanent drawing on skin.
